Upcoming Events at the Oakland Gallery
Monthly Photo Challenge Workshop

Workshop participants shall meet for approximately 1 hour on the first Monday of two consecutive months. The first monthly workshop will consist of a learning period where 4 or 5 camera and/or photography techniques will be explained and explored. Those techniques will be applied by the workshop participants (independently) over the coming month during weekly photo challenges.
Each week, workshop participants will receive a “Photo Challenge of the Week” where they will apply the workshop techniques to the weekly challenge. Participants will post their three best images (via a closed Face Book Group) to meet that week’s challenge. Participants can then “Vote” (by liking) their top three favorite images of other participants (not their own). The top three images of the week will be printed (8x12) and presented at the final workshop (winners will receive their prints at the conclusion of the workshop).
During the second (final) Workshop meeting, the top three images from each week (12 or 15 images) will be displayed and Workshop Participants will select the best three of the Workshop Winning Images from the Monthly Photo Challenge Workshop. The top three image makers will be asked to talk about their image and explain how they applied the workshop techniques (optional).
Objective: The Workshop will provide participants with techniques they can apply at their own pace. Through regular shooting and review of works from other participants on a weekly basis, participant skills will increase and improve as will their familiarity with their camera equipment.
Equipment Needed: DSLR camera and lens, flash, camera manual (a must), tripod, circular polarizing filter, Face Book Account, computer or computer access to upload images.
Photographer Experience Level: Beginner to Intermediate level experience. We will be discussing/exploring Manual Camera Settings, lens numbers, ISO, F-Stops, Shutter Speeds and more! Workshop sessions are not repeated and can build as a progressive experience or stand-alone experiences.

The Allegheny Chamber Players - April 8, 2018

Come join the Allegheny Chamber Players for a performance of seven chamber pieces performed by six members of the Allegheny Chamber Players. This is a theater style performance and reservations are recommended as seats are limited. Tickets include two drink tickets (wines and sodas, punch, water, etc.) and finger foods.
The program consists of music for one, two, and three performers by Claude Debussy Georg Friedrich Fuchs, Franz Josef Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Walter Piston, Peter Schickele, and Heitor Villa-Lobos
Christopher Wilkinson, director of the ensemble, stated that “this is the first occasion that the Allegheny Chamber Players have performed in Oakland, and only the second time they have performed elsewhere than in Morgantown. We look forward to bringing our music to a new audience.”
The program will begin with a Divertimento for Two Clarinets and Bassoon (1783) by Mozart composed for a Viennese audience with a new interest in chamber music for woodwinds. Claude Debussy’s haunting Syrinx (1913) for solo flute follows. A duet for flute and clarinet: Choros #2 (1924) by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos is next: a work reflecting the influence of street musicians in Rio de Janeiro in the 1920s. The first half of the program concludes with “Three Pieces for Flute, Clarinet, and Bassoon” by the American composer Walter Piston (1923).
Following intermission, the concert continues with a Duet in Bb for Violin and Clarinet (1794) by the German composer, Georg Friedrich Fuchs whose career unfolded in Paris. A trio for two clarinets and bassoon by the American composer Peter Schickele follows, entitled Dances for Three (1980/1982). The program concludes with a Trio in G for Flute, Violin, and Cello (1784) by Franz Josef Haydn.
The members of the Allegheny Chamber Players who will perform are Sara Beattie (cello), Jeanne Frieben (clarinet), Matthew V. Held (bassoon), Stephanie Pratt (violin), Alyssa Schwartz (flute), and Christopher Wilkinson (clarinet).
